Learning the Alexander Technique is interesting and fun. It is suitable for people of any age and is particularly helpful for people in later life to help maintain balance , coordination and mobility during the ageing process. Clinical trials have shown that learning the Alexander Technique demonstrates long term improvement of chronic back pain so it is an investment in your self-care and daily life.
As a posture and movement coach, I offer one-to one lessons lasting one hour so we can take time to slow down and carefully explore your way of moving. I use gentle hands-on guidance and verbal coaching to help you become more aware of tension patterns that can cause compression when you are sitting, standing or in everyday activities such as walking or moving in and out of a chair. I teach you to bring your attention to thinking more about how you move so you can unlearn habits and so allow an easier more efficient way of moving to evolve. We can also look at how you function in more complex activities such as singing. public speaking, playing musical instruments and sports.
I invite you to contact me so we can discuss your situation and arrange an initial consultation. After this first session I may recommend a course of 6-10 lessons to help you get a good understanding of how learning new skills can help you change how you move and function.
